HISTORY
The history of the small town of Castel del Rio is full of facts and events that have left an indelible mark on the territory over time; a trace that deserves to be valued and rediscovered even by those who come from afar to visit these places.
The first inhabited nucleus of the area was built on the heights surrounding the current Castel del Rio in the 6th and 7th centuries when Lombard families took refuge in the area to escape the invasion of the barbarians. In the 10th century. the castle of Cantagallo was built on a hill, the ruins of which are still visible, probably to defend the hordes of Hungarians who advanced voraciously in Romagna.
The history of Castel del Rio, however, is marked by the Alidosi family who for over four hundred years ( from the 13th to the 17th century) ruled over these lands swinging between misery and opulence, commitment and malice, light and death, myth and history.
The feud then called Massa di Sant'Ambrogio was granted to the Alidosi in the XIII century thanks to an imperial privilege. In the family illustrious personalities distinguished themselves such as Riccardo, captain of the people, mayor of Florence and then senator in Rome; Cardinal Francesco in 1505 and trusted man of Pope Julius II who had appointed him Treasurer of the Church, was ambassador and pontiff legate in Bologna where he distinguished himself for his cruelty, he was then treacherously killed by the Duke of Urbino; Obizzo, a man of law and culture, was governor of Ravenna, Cervia, Bertinoro and Cesena and commissioner of the Alidosi Bridge. Relations with the Republic of Florence were intense which, in exchange for protection, forced the family to bring the coat of arms of the lily on the chest of the griffin (heraldic coat of arms of the Alidosi family). Remembered for its hardness and ruthlessness towards the people, the family has however left to posterity a proud cultural identity such as the Palazzo and the Alidosi Bridge. In 1638 the papal troops occupied the fief of the Alidosi; the inhabitants of Castel del Rio initially happy for what happened soon found themselves regretting the old Signoria, oppressed by the duties and gabelles of the new administrators. Today Castel del Rio, with its history full of events and facts, is a town everything to live.

Coordinator Morara Pisani Fabrizio. The association has the purpose of promoting the economic activities of commerce, crafts and services in the Castel del Rio area. The Merchant's Day (July) is the most important initiative.

President Stefano Giovannini. The association manages the War Museum - Gothic Line, located in Palazzo Alidosi. Open to the public every Sunday and public holidays from 2pm to 6pm.
President Antonio Raspanti.Tel. 333-2159697. The association promotes and coordinates Belvedere activities such as the San Giovanni Festival (penultimate Sunday in June) and the Hospitality Festival (August).
President Simona Franceschelli.Tel. 0542-95620.The purpose of the association is to promote initiatives for the collection of funds and aid for the creation of a reception center for the children of Alvarenga - Brazil. The association is in direct contact with Sister Adriana, a missionary in Alvarenga.

The village association aimed at protecting and enhancing the PGI Marrone, at promoting the derivative products and the history of this product. Specialized in the art of cooking chestnuts over an open flame and with other traditional methods.
